Cleaning With a 9 Month Old

I am lucky. Penny does pretty well entertaining herself. She will play in her excersaucer for hours if I would let her. Yesterday, I wanted to tackle some of my bedroom, by far the worst room on the house. Now, I have tried wearing her on my back in the ergo while doing dishes and things before, but today I needed just me (plus, the ergo was in Nick's truck. So, I stuck Penny in her pack n play, in the doorway where she could still see me, and went to work!
How do you clean with little ones? Do you wait until they are napping?
